    LINK CHAIN USAGE

    Publisher:lyqlkjRelease time:2025-9-26page views:375次

A chain is an extremely common mechanical basic component with a very wide range of uses, covering almost all aspects of industry, agriculture, transportation, and even daily life. Based on their structure and load-bearing method, they can be mainly divided into three categories: transmission chains, conveyor chains, and hoisting chains.

The following is a detailed classification of the uses of chains:

    1. Transmission Chains

This is the most classic application of chains, used to transmit power from one shaft to another.

    · Motorcycles and Bicycles: Bicycle chains and motorcycle chains are typical transmission chains, transmitting the pedaling force or rotational force from the rider or engine to the rear wheel.
    · Industrial Machinery: In various factories, such as petrochemical, textile machinery, packaging machinery, and printing machinery, chains are used to connect motors and equipment, achieving stable and precise synchronous transmission.
    · Agricultural Machinery: Transmission chains are widely used inside equipment like combine harvesters, tractors, and seeders because chains can adapt to harsh environments like mud and dust better than belts.
    · Automotive Engines: The timing chain inside a car engine is a key component responsible for driving the camshaft, ensuring the precise cooperation between valves and pistons.

    2. Conveyor Chains

Used to transport materials on assembly lines, often in conjunction with chain plates, buckets, or directly serving as the conveyor line itself.

    · Production Line Automation: On assembly lines for food processing, pharmaceutical production, and home appliance assembly, chains drive rollers or chain plates to form conveyor belts, transporting semi-finished or finished products.
    · Logistics and Warehousing: Airport baggage handling systems and roller lines in express distribution centers all rely on chains for drive.
    · Agricultural and Forestry Product Processing: Material conveying in wood cutting lines and tobacco production lines.
    · Tableware and Cleaning: The mesh conveyor belt inside dishwashers used for holding dishes is also a special form of chain.

    3. Hoisting and Hauling Chains

Mainly used to bear tensile forces, for hanging or dragging heavy objects.

    · Hoists: The round link chains used in hand chain hoists and electric hoists are used for lifting heavy objects, commonly found in workshops, warehouses, or construction sites.
    · Lashing and Fastening: In ship or truck transport, chains are used to tighten and secure cargo, preventing movement during transit (i.e., lashing chains).
    · Elevators: Some older elevators or specific types of lifting platforms use chains as traction components.
    · Tire Chains: Installed on vehicle tires to increase friction on snowy or muddy roads, ensuring driving safety.

    4. Special Uses and Decoration

    · Decoration and Accessories: Such as metal necklaces, pet leashes, chandelier hanging chains, and bathroom sink plug chains. These types of chains usually focus more on appearance and corrosion resistance.
    · Security and Fencing: Stainless steel or galvanized chains are often used for park fencing, warning barriers, or gate locking.
    · Oil Drilling: In heavy-load situations like offshore drilling platforms, very large-sized chains are used for power transmission in deep-sea drilling.

    Summary

Simply put, the functions of a chain can be summarized as:

    1. Transmitting Power (e.g., motorcycles, machinery).
    2. Conveying Items (e.g., assembly lines, conveyor belts).
    3. Bearing Tensile Forces (e.g., cranes, lashing).

Because chains possess characteristics such as accurate transmission ratio, high load capacity, and resistance to harsh environments (e.g., high temperatures, dust, oil), they hold an irreplaceable position in the engineering field.
